Everything You Need to Know About the Lily Artistry Experience

Planning your wedding comes with a lot of decisions, and your hair and makeup should feel like the easy part. We’ve answered our most frequently asked questions about bridal trials, wedding day preparation, hair extensions, timing, cultural celebrations and what to expect when booking LilyArtistry.

BRIDAL MAKEUP

1

How long does bridal makeup take?

Bridal makeup typically takes around 1.5 to 2 hours, depending on the desired look, skin preparation and individual features. We allow enough time to perfect every detail without rushing your wedding morning.

2

Do you apply eyelid tape for Asian bridal makeup?

Yes. Eyelid tape can be applied where suitable to enhance or balance the eyelid shape. Lily has extensive experience working with Asian eyes, including monolids, hooded eyes and uneven eyelids, and will customise the application to complement your individual features.

3

Do you specialise in makeup for Asian eyes and features?

Yes. Asian bridal makeup is one of LilyArtistry’s core specialities. We tailor each look to your individual eye shape, facial structure, skin tone and personal preferences rather than applying the same technique to every bride.
Our approach combines modern Eastern and Western beauty techniques to create makeup that enhances your features while still allowing you to feel like yourself.

4

Can you create Korean, Douyin or Thai inspired bridal makeup?

Yes. We can incorporate elements of Korean, Douyin and Thai inspired makeup into your bridal look while adapting the techniques for professional photography, longevity and your individual features.

Reference images are always welcome at your bridal trial so we can understand exactly what you love about each look.

5

Will my bridal makeup last all day?

Yes. Bridal makeup is specifically prepared and applied for longevity, photography and the conditions of your wedding day.

Skin preparation, layering techniques and professional products are selected according to your skin type and wedding conditions. Your makeup is designed to remain polished from the ceremony through to the reception.

6

Should I book a bridal makeup touch-up service?

A touch-up service is optional and depends on your wedding schedule and desired level of coverage.

It can be particularly useful if you have a long photography schedule, outdoor ceremony, multiple cultural ceremonies or would like your makeup refreshed before the reception. Full-day bridal coverage is available for brides who would like ongoing assistance throughout the day.

7

Do you provide lashes for the wedding day?

Yes. Lashes are included where appropriate and are selected according to your eye shape and desired makeup style.

We focus on lashes that enhance the eyes without overpowering them, particularly when working with Asian eye shapes.

8

Can you do bridal makeup for mature, dry or acne-prone skin?

Yes. Every complexion is prepared and treated individually. Product selection and application techniques are adjusted according to your skin type, texture and concerns to create a refined finish that photographs beautifully while still looking like skin.

BRIDAL HAIR

Do I need a bridal hair and makeup trial?

Yes. A bridal trial is highly recommended for LilyArtistry wedding bookings.

Your trial allows us to understand your features, preferences, hair type, skin, dress, accessories and overall wedding vision. It also gives us the opportunity to refine the look before the wedding so there is no guesswork on the day.

Do you provide hair extensions?

No.
We can determine the most suitable option during your bridal trial.
Then recommend extensions for you to purchase before the wedding.

What bridal hairstyles do you specialise in?

Our bridal hairstyling includes Hollywood waves, romantic updos, sleek ponytails, French twists, half-up half-down styles and modern bridal buns.

Your hairstyle will be tailored to your hair type, face shape, dress, veil and overall wedding aesthetic.

Can you attach my wedding veil?

Yes. We can securely place your veil after completing your bridal hairstyle and show your bridal party how to remove it safely later if required.

Where possible, we recommend a veil with loops rather than a traditional comb to minimise disruption to the hairstyle.

Should I have my hair washed the night before?

Yes.

Do I need hair extensions for my wedding hairstyle?

For most hair-down styles, particularly Hollywood waves and voluminous bridal hairstyles, we strongly recommend extensions for additional fullness, structure and longevity.

We can assess your natural hair during your bridal trial and recommend whether extensions will benefit your chosen style.

Can you create Hollywood waves for Asian hair?

Yes. Hollywood waves are one of Lily’s signature bridal hairstyles.
The hair is carefully prepared, curled, set and sculpted to create polished waves with movement, volume and longevity. Extensions are usually recommended to achieve the best result.

Will my bridal hairstyle last all day?

Your hair is prepared and styled using professional techniques designed for wedding-day longevity.

Factors including your natural hair type, weather, chosen hairstyle and extensions can affect longevity, which is why we discuss these considerations during your trial and recommend the most suitable style for your wedding.

What if I have naturally wavy/curly hair?

Please have it blowdried/ straightened before the appointment.

PREMIUM FULL-DAY SERVICE

1

How do I know if I need full-day bridal hair and makeup coverage?

Full-day coverage is ideal for brides who want ongoing support beyond the wedding morning. It is particularly useful for long wedding days, multiple ceremonies, outfit changes, photography in different locations, hair or makeup changes, or brides who simply want the reassurance of having their artist available throughout the day.

2

How long is the full-day service?

Our Premium Full-Day Bridal Service provides up to 10 hours of coverage, allowing your artist to remain with you beyond the initial hair and makeup application for touch-ups and scheduled beauty changes. Additional hours can be arranged if required.

3

Does full-day coverage include hair and makeup for bridesmaids?

Full-day coverage is primarily designed around the bride. Bridesmaid, mother and additional bridal party hair and makeup services can be added separately, with additional LilyArtistry artists arranged where required.

4

Are travel and parking included in the full-day service?

Travel requirements are calculated according to your wedding locations and itinerary. Parking and any venue-specific parking costs are the responsibility of the client. Destination weddings and locations outside our standard service area may incur additional travel fees.

5

Can I change my hair or makeup during the wedding day?

Yes. Full-day coverage can include scheduled hair changes and makeup adjustments depending on your chosen package and wedding timeline. This is particularly popular for brides changing between a tea ceremony, wedding ceremony and reception look.

6

What does the artist do between touch-ups?

our artist remains available according to the agreed wedding timeline to monitor your hair and makeup, provide touch-ups before important moments and prepare for any scheduled beauty changes. This can include touch-ups before photography, the ceremony, reception entrance or outfit changes.

WEDDING DAY & BRIDAL PARTY

When will Lily and her team arrive to set up?

About 15 minutes before the start time.

. Do I pay the remaining payment on my wedding day?

No, 3 months before your wedding, you will receive an email instructing you on how to make the final payment at the Bridal Trial.

Do you provide hair and makeup for bridesmaids and mothers?

Yes. The LilyArtistry team provides professional hair and makeup for bridesmaids, mothers and members of the bridal party alongside the bride.

For larger bridal parties or compressed timelines, additional artists or assistants may be required.

How do I set up the hair/makeup station for Lily?

A week before your wedding, you will receive an email containing a checklist.

How long should I allow for bridal hair and makeup on my wedding day?

We generally recommend allowing approximately 3 to 3.5 hours for the bride’s complete hair and makeup service.

Your final wedding timeline will depend on your bridal party size, ceremony time, photography schedule, travel and any additional services.

How early can you start on the wedding morning?

Early starts can be arranged when required. An early-start fee may apply for services beginning before our standard starting time.

Your exact start time will be calculated according to the number of services and the time everyone needs to be completely ready.

BEFORE YOUR WEDDING

1

How should I prepare my skin before my wedding?

A consistent skincare routine is more valuable than introducing multiple new treatments immediately before your wedding.

We recommend keeping your skin well hydrated and avoiding unfamiliar or aggressive treatments too close to the wedding date. If you are planning professional skin treatments, discuss the timing with us at the bridal trial.

2

Should I wash my hair before my wedding?

Yes. Your hair should be clean, completely dry and prepared according to the instructions provided before your wedding.

Specific preparation may vary depending on your hair type and chosen hairstyle, so we will provide personalised guidance where required.

3

Should I get lash extensions before my wedding?

We generally prefer working without heavy lash extensions because they can restrict how we customise the eye makeup and lash placement.

Individual bridal lashes allow us greater control over the final eye shape and can be selected specifically for your features.
We will discuss the most suitable option when planning your booking.

4

Can I wear contact lenses with bridal makeup?

Yes. If you regularly wear contact lenses or would like cosmetic lenses for your bridal look, they should generally be inserted before the detailed eye makeup begins.

We recommend trialling any new lenses well before your wedding rather than wearing an unfamiliar pair for the first time on the day.

BRIDAL TRIAL

Can or should I bring someone to watch the trial?

Not available. Our space does not have a designated waiting area.

What should I bring to my bridal trial?

We recommend bringing inspiration images, photos of your wedding dress, veil and accessories, along with any hair extensions or specific accessories you intend to wear.

It is also helpful to show us examples of what you do not like, as this gives us an even clearer understanding of your preferences.

Should I have my hair washed the night before?

Yes. Clean, freshly washed hair creates the ideal foundation for styling, while an oily scalp can make the base work more challenging.

Should I have my trial and engagement shoot on at the same time?

Pros:
- You can see how your hair and makeup appear on a professional camera, especially considering how your photographer’s editing style may affect the final look.
Cons:
- If your hair and makeup aren’t quite right, you’ll be stuck with them in the photos, as they are permanent.
- We usually recommend testing the styles you're most unsure about during the trial to help with the elimination process, while your go-to look remains a safe option.
- If you have a photoshoot afterward, you won’t be able to try different eyeshadow styles.
- Face framing: We won’t be able to trim your fringe to the exact length during the trial, as we need to keep some length for adjustments on the wedding day. This may result in an unbalanced look for the shoot.

How long does a bridal hair and makeup trial take?

A bridal hair and makeup trial generally takes approximately 3 to 4 hours.

We intentionally allow plenty of time for consultation, adjustments and refinement so that you leave feeling completely confident in your wedding-day look.

Can you travel to my location for the trial?

No, it must be held at our Studio.

Should I have eyelash extensions on for the makeup trial?

Highly not recommended (the artist will not be able to customise the lashes according to your eye shape).

What usually happens at the trial?

You will fill out a questionnaire before the appointment. We will go through a thorough discussion based on your responses.
- It’s a 3-hour session for hair and makeup (1.5 hours for hair or makeup).
- An additional hour for a mini photography session allows us to evaluate your makeup and hair through a professional camera, helping with the visualisation of the final result.

Can I try more than one hairstyle?

Yes. If you would like to trial two hairstyles, additional time will need to be allocated. A trial involving two hairstyles and bridal makeup can take approximately 4.5 hours.

ASIAN & CULTURAL WEDDINGS

Do you specialise in Asian bridal hair and makeup in Sydney?

Yes. LilyArtistry specialises in Asian bridal hair and makeup in Sydney, combining modern Eastern and Western techniques to create refined, personalised bridal looks.

Do you provide Vietnamese bridal hair and makeup?

Yes. We have experience with Vietnamese weddings, tea ceremonies and multi-event celebrations, including brides wearing traditional áo dài as well as Western bridal gowns.

Your hair and makeup can be designed to complement both traditional and contemporary elements of your wedding.

Do you work with brides who want Western makeup rather than traditional Asian makeup?

Absolutely. Specialising in Asian features does not mean you are limited to one makeup style.

LilyArtistry is known for blending Eastern and Western beauty techniques, allowing us to create anything from soft Korean-inspired bridal beauty to refined Western soft glam or more defined evening makeup.

Do you provide hair and makeup for Chinese tea ceremonies?

Yes. We regularly work with brides having Chinese tea ceremonies, traditional ceremonies and Western receptions.

We can plan your bridal hair and makeup around multiple outfits, ceremonies and photography schedules to ensure your look works cohesively throughout the day.

Can you create different looks for my tea ceremony and wedding reception?

Yes. Hair and makeup changes can be incorporated depending on your chosen package and wedding timeline.

For brides with multiple ceremonies or outfit changes, we can help plan how your beauty look evolves throughout the day while remaining cohesive.
